In Equal Measure: Songs for the Tender Witness - CD produced with Yolo Hospice
Songwriter and hospice volunteer Laura Sandage has created a unique collection of contemplative and spirited songs that give voice to quiet grief, to loss and courage, and to the enduring love underlying our ephemeral human lives.
The creation of In Equal Measure: Songs for the Tender Witness was made possible through the participation of Yolo Hospice, where Laura is a volunteer. Hospice staff helped write a grant proposal to the City of Davis for funds to support the project, and also met with Laura to define the focus of the project and choose appropriate material from Laura’s catalogue of original songs. Community members hearing of the project contributed their talents at little or no cost, providing musical talent, graphic design, sound engineering and mastering. Black and white photographs on the CD packaging are taken from the Faces of Yolo Hospice exhibit, another creative project created by Yolo Hospice to bring stories of the hospice’s important work out into the community.
Currently the CD is being distributed among the Yolo Hospice community as an outreach and education tool, with plans to develop programming for its use in therapeutic settings. Designed for a hospice, this album nevertheless speaks to anyone who has known loss or has felt drawn to deep questions about life and what lies beyond. These songs will soothe the ear, open the heart, and enliven the spirit of listeners from every stage of life.
