Laura Sandage: Listen
Comfort
(Laura Sandage)
Laura Sandage 2007
This song was created after I was already in process with Yolo Hospice, choosing material to put on the CD. Estelle Kinsella, the music therapist on the Yolo Hospice staff, said it would be nice if we had a song on the disc that was like a lullaby. I went home and wrote this song with the volunteers of Yolo Hospice in mind. Then Estelle had an idea to change up the words in the final chorus-- and that was a good idea, too!
You can tell me all your stories
From the days when you were young
Or we can sit together quietly
Soaking in the morning sun
When I come and when I'm leaving
I will remind you of my name
And I'll keep you close when I'm away
I will be sheltering your flame
chorus
Let me bring you comfort
Let me take your hand
I will listen to your eyes
And try to understand
Let me hold you softly
In a cradle made of song
I will bring you comfort
There is a tender place
Where you belong
You can show me all your photographs
I will bring a deck of cards
And if you need a change of scenery
I'll take you out to the backyard
When our time is done, I'll sing for you
This little song that you can keep
To remember what we shared today
As you are drifting off to sleep
chorus
Don't worry what you bring to me
Don't ask me what you can do for me
Don't wonder if you should sing to me
All you need to be is you
Your presence is the gift you give
I see you 'cause I choose to
You show me another way to live
Just being here with you
Being here with you
Let me bring you comfort
Let me take your hand
You can listen to my eyes
And try to understand
We can hold each other softly
In a cradle made of song
We can share this comfort
There is a tender place
Where you belong
There is a tender place
Where we belong
